New Test Determines Breeds of Mixed Dogs

Want to know what breeds you are dealing with in your mixed breed puppy? Later this summer Mars Veterinary, a division of M & M Mars Inc, will launch their Wisdom Panel MX. This DNA-based test reportedly distinguishes over 100 American Kennel Club-recognized breeds through analysis of more than 300 distinct genetic markers.
Through testing, the physical and behavioral traits of a mixed breed may be more accurately predicted. Having a clear idea of what to expect from your puppy as she grows will not only allow owners of mixed breed dogs to better care their dog’s specific traits, but will also strengthen the pet-owner bond.
A small blood sample, taken at your local veterinary hospital, is submitted. Results are obtained two to three weeks later, and include the dog’s breed analysis and information regarding the appearance and behavioral characteristics of the breeds in question. For more information on Wisdom Panel MX, check with your local veterinarian!
